TEACHER KILLED, SCORES OF STUDENTS ABDUCTED IN BORNO SCHOOL ATTACK

The incident was confirmed on Monday by the Special Adviser to the Adamawa State Governor on Media and Strategy, Solomon Kwamagar, who hails from Lassa, a border community between Borno and Adamawa states.

Kwamagar said the attackers arrived on motorcycles, passed through the Lassa market and made their way to the school before launching the attack.

“Today is Lassa market day. I was informed that they came through the market on motorcycles and went to Government Day Secondary School, Lassa. They shot and killed one teacher and took away all the students who were in their classrooms,” he said.

He explained that Lassa is largely inhabited by the Margi people, whose communities are spread across both Borno and Adamawa states.

“Lassa in Borno State is predominantly inhabited by my people, the Margi. We are in both Adamawa and Borno states. I am from Lassa, but I chose to reside in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State.”

Kwamagar added that efforts were still ongoing to determine the exact number of students and teachers taken away during the attack.

“I’m still making contacts to ascertain the total number of students and teachers who were kidnapped from the school.”

Attempts to obtain confirmation from the spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, were unsuccessful as his telephone line was switched off at the time of inquiry.
