FCT POLICE DISMISSES VIRAL VIDEO LINKING OFFICERS TO PETER OBI AS MISLEADING

The clarification was contained in a statement issued on Monday, June 29, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh.

According to the statement, the original footage was altered with political campaign posters and captions to falsely suggest that officers of the Nigeria Police Force were involved in a political engagement or had endorsed a political figure.

The Command explained that the claim is entirely false and does not reflect the actual circumstances surrounding the incident.

It stated that the interaction shown in the video took place in 2024 after the FCT Police Command received a distress call over unrest and protests triggered by a leadership dispute at the Labour Party National Headquarters in the Utako area of Abuja.

The statement noted that police personnel were immediately deployed to the scene to restore law and order. While carrying out the operation, Mr. Peter Obi, who was present at the location, briefly addressed the officers to explain the circumstances surrounding the party dispute.

According to the Command, the exchange was incidental to the police response and had no political undertone, contrary to the impression created by the altered video.

The statement further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, had directed a comprehensive investigation into the source of the manipulated video.

It added, “The FCT Police Command remains an impartial and apolitical institution committed to the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities. The Command will not allow its operational activities or personnel to be misrepresented or exploited for partisan propaganda or any other vested interest.”

The Command also urged members of the public to avoid creating, editing, or circulating misleading content capable of deceiving citizens or eroding public confidence in state institutions.

It further advised Nigerians to verify information through official channels before sharing materials on social media.
