Public and private schools across Sokoto State are expected to resume for the 2026/2027 academic session on Monday, September 14, 2026, the state government has announced.
The resumption schedule, however, excludes schools earlier shut down because of insecurity, as authorities said those institutions would remain closed until further notice.
The State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education announced the development in a statement issued on Friday by its Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Muhammad Iya.
According to the ministry, boarding students are expected to return to their schools on Sunday, September 13, ahead of the commencement of academic activities the following day.
The government said the affected schools in insecurity-prone areas would only be reopened after authorities are satisfied that conditions are safe enough for students and staff to return.
It added that a fresh date for reopening the schools would be communicated when it is considered safe and appropriate.
The ministry called on parents, guardians, School-Based Management Committees and Parent-Teacher Associations to support an orderly resumption and ensure that students return promptly.
Teachers were also directed to resume duty and begin academic activities immediately in line with the approved schedule.
As part of efforts to ensure compliance, ministry inspectors are expected to visit schools across the state to monitor the resumption and assess whether academic activities have commenced as directed.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Ahmad Ladan Ala, also directed heads of parastatals and agencies under the ministry to closely monitor the exercise.
The government said the measures were aimed at ensuring a smooth start to the new academic session while keeping the safety of students and school personnel in areas affected by insecurity as a priority.
