SHETTIMA URGES UNITY, SACRIFICE AS NIGERIA PURSUES RENEWAL

Vice President Kashim Shettima has urged Nigerians to remain united, embrace peaceful coexistence, and support collective sacrifice as the country continues its journey toward recovery and sustainable development under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In his 2026 Eid-el-Kabir message released on Wednesday, Shettima said the values symbolised by the Islamic festival remain important to Nigeria’s pursuit of peace, stability, and inclusive growth.

According to a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President encouraged citizens to reflect on the virtues of faith, obedience, sacrifice, and compassion demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim.

“This is a period of sober reflection, a season of reaching out to the indigent among us, of building bridges of brotherhood and sisterhood.

“What binds us together supersedes whatever divides us. As a nation, we must continue to strengthen the spirit of unity, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence for our collective progress and prosperity,” VP Shettima said.

The Vice President warned that meaningful national development cannot flourish in an atmosphere of division, distrust, and hostility, urging Nigerians to put aside ethnic, religious, and political differences in tackling the nation’s common challenges.

He also reiterated the commitment of the Tinubu administration to combating insecurity, stabilising the economy, creating employment opportunities, and improving the welfare of citizens across the country.

“Our nation is undergoing a process of renewal and transformation aimed at securing a more stable and prosperous future for generations to come. While the reforms may require patience and sacrifice, they are necessary steps toward rebuilding a stronger Nigeria,” he stated.

Shettima further appealed to Nigerians to continue backing the Federal Government’s reform policies, stressing that unity and shared responsibility are crucial to overcoming poverty, insecurity, and social challenges.

The Vice President also reassured citizens of the government’s determination to restore peace and security nationwide, while commending members of the armed forces and other security agencies for their continued sacrifices in defending the country.

“No matter how long the night may seem, dawn will surely come. Nigeria is steadily advancing on the path of peace, recovery, and sustainable development,” VP Shettima said.
