Nigerian activist and 2027 presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore participated in a demonstration in New York on Thursday to demand an end to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
Sowore shared details of his participation in a post on his official X handle on Friday, strongly condemning the human rights situation and accusing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of overseeing a humanitarian crisis.
“I joined to make it clear that Nigerians stand for justice and human rights for Palestinians,” Sowore wrote, adding his voice to the global calls for peace and accountability.
His appearance coincided with widespread demonstrations across New York on Thursday, which coincided with Prime Minister Netanyahu’s address to the United Nations General Assembly.
Thousands of protesters took to the streets to denounce the military campaign in Gaza and urge an end to United States military aid to Israel. Local reports indicate that police arrested more than 100 demonstrators during the tense mobilization.
