The Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) has officially announced that elections into the 27 Local Government Area Chairmanship positions and 305 Ward Councillorship positions in Imo State will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
In a statement issued on Friday endorsed by the ISIEC Chairman, Chief Charles Ejiogu, he said that the elections will be conducted across 4,758 polling units in the state.
The Commission said the election date is in line with its 360-day Notice of Election issued on September 18, 2025, pursuant to Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, as amended.
ISIEC also disclosed that consultations with critical stakeholders are ongoing.
He urged all registered political parties to take note and make the necessary preparations.
Meanwhile Governor Hope Uzodimma has approved the appointment of of 27 Local Government Prosperity Cordinators and 305 word Properity Officers.
This was announced through a letter issued by the Special Adviser/Chief Political Adviser to the Governor on Political Affairs, Chief Perry Opara.
