A 38-year-old Florida mother, Malia Nummerdor, has denied accusations of sexual contact with a family dog after her estranged husband, Erik Nummerdor, reported surveillance footage to authorities.

Malia was arrested on September 15 in Charlotte County, Florida, and charged with sexual contact with an animal, a second-degree felony under Florida law. The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office said its investigation began after social media posts were made about the accusations and investigators obtained digital evidence from a home surveillance system.

According to the arrest report, Erik told investigators that he had installed two security cameras inside the home while trying to determine who had been taking money from a coin container. He said everyone in the home knew about the cameras.
While reviewing footage from one of the cameras, Erik told investigators that he found footage involving Malia and the family dog, Ranger. He provided investigators with images and access to the laptop containing the recordings.
When Malia was interviewed by investigators on September 15, she confirmed that she was the woman shown in the footage and that the dog was the family pet.
However, she denied engaging in any sexual activity with the animal. According to the sheriff’s office, she said she had been lying with and petting the dog but was unable to provide an explanation that investigators considered consistent with what was shown in the footage. She eventually requested an attorney, ending the interview.
Malia was subsequently arrested and booked into the Charlotte County Jail. She has since been released, according to reports.
Following her arrest, Malia’s friends launched an online fundraiser seeking money for her legal expenses and support for her two sons.
The fundraiser says Malia and her children have had their lives “turned upside down” following what it describes as a difficult situation involving her estranged husband and accusations that she maintains are untrue.
The campaign also claims that Malia and her sons have been displaced from their home and that she is facing significant legal expenses.
It states:
“Malia is facing serious allegations, and she needs experienced legal representation to ensure that she has the opportunity to fully address them through the proper legal process. This situation has also deeply affected her two young sons, who deserve privacy, stability, and as much normalcy as possible while the adults involved work through what comes next.”
The fundraiser further states that it is not asking people to determine the facts of the case, but rather to help Malia and her children during the legal proceedings.
Reports said the fundraiser had received only a small number of donations shortly after it was launched.
Malia’s friends have described the situation as a setup by her estranged husband, but the fundraiser itself does not provide independent evidence establishing that she was framed.
The case remains ongoing, and the charge against Malia has not been resolved in court.
