Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to improving the welfare of its personnel and enhancing operational effectiveness through the provision of better accommodation and recreational facilities.
Aneke gave the assurance during the commissioning of newly completed facilities in Abuja, including the Airmen’s Quarters at Mogadishu Cantonment, the Medical Officers’ Quarters on Abacha Road and the NAF Valley Base Sports Complex in Asokoro.
According to a statement issued to Defence Correspondents in Abuja by the spokesperson of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the projects were designed to improve the morale and well-being of personnel.
The CAS described the development as “another significant milestone in the continuing efforts of the Nigerian Air Force towards enhancing personnel welfare and infrastructural development.”

He said the projects went beyond the commissioning of new facilities, stressing that they represented the Service’s deliberate commitment to improving the living conditions, physical well-being and overall effectiveness of its personnel.
Aneke noted that the demands of military service required personnel to remain focused, physically fit and mentally prepared, adding that adequate accommodation and recreational facilities were essential to boosting morale, strengthening cohesion and sustaining operational readiness.
According to him, the accommodation projects would provide “a more conducive and secure living environment for our airmen,” while the sports complex would promote “physical fitness, recreation, teamwork and esprit de corps.”
The CAS also disclosed that the NAF was working on a sustainable housing arrangement to enable its personnel to become homeowners.
He said discussions were ongoing with banks and relevant government agencies to address factors responsible for the high cost of housing and improve access to affordable homeownership for NAF personnel.
Aneke said the initiative reflected the Service’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel and their families, both during active service and beyond.
He further disclosed that some blocks of the newly commissioned accommodation had been named after officers and airmen who paid the supreme price or distinguished themselves through gallantry in the operational theatre.
According to him, the gesture was aimed at preserving the memories of fallen personnel, honouring their sacrifices and inspiring future generations of NAF personnel.
The CAS said the projects aligned with a key enabler of his leadership vision: “maintaining a highly motivated force by enhancing welfare and infrastructural renewal.”
He commended all those who contributed to the successful completion of the projects and urged beneficiaries to ensure their “proper maintenance and judicious use.”
Aneke assured that the NAF would continue, within available resources, to implement initiatives aimed at improving the living and working conditions of its personnel while strengthening its capacity to discharge its constitutional responsibilities.
The commissioning, he added, underscored the Service’s commitment to building a well-supported, motivated, and operationally effective force.
