“You See People Go All The Way To The Supreme Court, Sometimes Over Nothing” —Afam Osigwe

According to a report by Channels TV, on Friday April 10, 2026, The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Afam Osigwe (SAN), has delivered a sharp critique of the country’s litigious culture, specifically targeting the common go to court refrain used by political and legal actors.

In a recent appearance on Channels Television, Osigwe expressed concern over how the judicial process is being used as a tool for delay rather than a pursuit of justice. He noted that many disputes reaching the highest levels of the judiciary could easily be settled through dialogue if not for “ulterior motives.”

“When you want to achieve an ulterior motive, it’s likely because some of the cases are not such that people can’t sit down and resolve,” Osigwe stated. “Then you see people go all the way to the Supreme Court, come back and go all the way to the Supreme Court and sometimes over nothing”........…
