There was shock and deep mourning in the House of Representatives after news broke that Kano federal lawmaker, Muhammad Danjuma Hassan, is dead.
The respected politician, who represented Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency, reportedly passed away Friday evening at the age of 66 after battling a long illness.
His sudden exit has shaken the Green Chamber, with many lawmakers struggling to come to terms with the loss of a man widely described as a “pillar” in legislative matters.
Confirming the heartbreaking development, House spokesperson Akin Rotimi did not hold back, revealing that Hassan’s death is a massive blow not just to the National Assembly, but to Nigeria as a whole.
“This is a profound loss,” Rotimi said, stressing that the late lawmaker’s experience and brilliance in lawmaking will be extremely hard to replace.
Before his death, Hassan wasn’t just any lawmaker—he was serving as Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary, a powerful role where his expertise shaped key decisions.
Colleagues often turned to him when things got complicated, as he was known for his deep knowledge of legal drafting and legislative processes.
But that’s not all—long before entering politics, Hassan had already built a strong reputation within the National Assembly, rising through the ranks to become a Permanent Secretary.
Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, has since reacted, describing him as a man of integrity who gave his all in service to the nation.
Meanwhile, final funeral rites have been scheduled for Saturday in line with Islamic traditions.
As tributes continue to pour in, one thing is clear—his death has left a void many believe will not be filled anytime soon........…
