WOMAN ALLEGEDLY SETS CO-WIFE, TWO CHILDREN ON FIRE IN KANO

Residents of Hotoro area in Kano State have been thrown into shock after a woman allegedly set her co-wife and two children ablaze during a late-night attack.

The incident reportedly happened on Monday night in the Mai Allo area of Hotoro.

The victims, a 28-year-old woman and her two children aged seven and three, were said to have suffered severe burns and are currently receiving treatment at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dala, and Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.

Their father also reportedly sustained injuries while trying to rescue them from the fire and is undergoing medical treatment.

A family member told Channels Television that the relatives were alerted to the incident in the early hours of Tuesday.

“We were informed that my sister, her husband, and the children had been set ablaze by her co-wife,” he said.

According to the relative, identified as Sa’ad, the woman had only spent less than two weeks in her matrimonial home before the attack occurred.

“She is about 28 years old. The children are from her previous marriage. They are stepchildren to the husband, who works as a tricycle rider,” he added.

The development has sparked outrage within the community, with residents describing the incident as disturbing and calling for justice to be served.

“We are shocked by what happened. This kind of violence has no place in our community,” a resident said.

The suspect has reportedly been taken into custody at the Mariri Police Division.

As of the time this report was filed, the Kano State Police Command had yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
