Jamil-Isyaku Gwamna has been cleared by the All Progressives Congress to contest the 2027 governorship election in Gombe State after scaling through the party’s screening exercise conducted in Abuja.
The outcome of the exercise was announced in a statement released on Sunday by Gwamna’s Media Aide, Ibrahim Shawai.
The screening was held at the Kaduna State Governor’s Lodge, Plot 37 Jose Marti Street, Asokoro, in line with the APC’s constitutional provisions and nomination procedures for aspirants seeking elective offices under the party.
Chairman of the screening panel, Dr Benjamin Obi Nwoye, confirmed that Gwamna fulfilled all the constitutional and procedural conditions required to participate in the APC governorship process.
Gwamna, who recently emerged as the consensus candidate in Gombe State, is expected to contest the party’s direct primary alongside former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Pantami, and former Minister of Transportation, Saidu Alkali, both of whom have declared interest in the race.
Speaking after the screening, Gwamna praised the APC leadership for organising what he described as a credible and transparent exercise designed to strengthen democracy within the party.
“I am honoured to have successfully gone through this important constitutional process of our great party. This exercise further strengthens confidence in the democratic values and internal structures of the APC,” he said.
The governorship hopeful also pledged to sustain and expand the achievements recorded under Governor Muhammadu Yahaya’s administration in Gombe State.
“Our vision is to ensure that Gombe State works better for every citizen, regardless of background or status. We are committed to building on existing achievements while introducing new ideas that will further improve the lives of our people,” he stated.
Gwamna further commended Governor Inuwa Yahaya and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying their developmental efforts had continued to increase public confidence in the APC at both the state and national levels.
According to him, the achievements of the current administrations would further strengthen the party’s support base ahead of the 2027 elections.
He also appealed to party members and supporters to remain united and focused on ensuring the APC’s continued success in Gombe State.
“The success of the APC in Gombe State depends on collective effort, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to progress,” he added.
