NCAA TO UNVEIL NEW DRONE REGULATION PORTAL AT DRONETECX 2026

Nigeria is set to take another step in regulating drone operations as the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority announced plans to unveil its new Drone/Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) portal during the 6th Africa International Drone Technology Conference and Exhibition.

The conference and exhibition will hold from May 12 to 16 at the NIGAV Expo Centre located within the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.

The aviation authority made this known in a statement released on Saturday by its Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, and shared on the agency’s X page.

According to the NCAA, the introduction of the portal represents a significant move toward improving the regulation of drone activities in Nigeria while supporting the expansion of the sector.

The authority explained that the digital platform is designed to make key processes easier for drone users, including aircraft registration, operator certification, ownership transfer, incident reporting, and compliance management for individuals, SMEs, and commercial operators.

“The new digital portal consolidates the entire application and approval lifecycle into a single, user-friendly platform.

“Operators can now submit documentation, upload safety case files and track application status in real time, all in full compliance with Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations (Nig. CARs Part 22),” the statement read.

The NCAA further encouraged drone operators, service providers, stakeholders, and intending users to familiarise themselves with the platform before its official rollout.

Interested parties were advised to visit the official RPAS portal at NCAA RPAS Portal and participate in the launch event at DroneTecX 2026, where live demonstrations and practical guidance on the system will be provided.

The agency noted that the initiative is expected to cut down bureaucratic delays and boost operational efficiency within Nigeria’s growing drone industry.
