“When I Heard The Sound, I Tapped My Wife And Told Her That Some People Are Shooting–Victim

According to a report by The Sun on Friday, April 10, 2026, late on Thursday night, armed attackers invaded Mbwelle village in Bokkos Local Government Area, killing no fewer than eight residents in what has become another violent incident in the area within a short period.

The attack reportedly occurred around 11 pm when residents had already gone to bed, leaving the community vulnerable to sudden intrusion.

Eyewitness accounts from the area indicated that the gunmen moved into the village and began shooting sporadically for an extended period, creating widespread panic and confusion as families struggled to understand what was happening.

The incident came only days after the community was still dealing with the emotional impact of earlier violence linked to the Palm Sunday attack in Angwan Rukuba, further deepening fear among residents in surrounding settlements.

The victims of the attack were mostly members of the same extended family, making the incident particularly devastating for the community.

Those killed included Elder Iliya Mangut Dakus, Mr Luck Titus Dakus, Mr Habila Istifanu Dakus, Mr Hassan Istifanus Dakus, Mrs Hassan Moses Dakus, Biggie Lucky Dakus, Sunday Gideon Dakus, and Mr Innocent Barnabas Makwin.

Family members and residents described how the attack targeted residential homes, leaving little or no opportunity for escape once the gunmen gained entry into the village.

The concentration of casualties within one family has left several households in mourning, as many of the victims were closely related and lived within the same compound or nearby residences.

Community members have since been gathering to account for those missing and to support surviving relatives affected by the incident.

According to accounts gathered from residents, the attackers operated in the village for close to an hour without any form of resistance.

The sustained gunfire reportedly lasted long enough to prevent coordinated escape efforts, as many residents were caught off guard while sleeping.

Some survivors explained that the attackers moved through different parts of the community during the assault, forcing people to flee into surrounding bushes for safety.

The absence of immediate security response during the attack has also been a point of concern among residents, who described the experience as prolonged and chaotic.

The timing of the attack, combined with its duration, contributed to a high level of destruction and loss within a relatively short period.

One of the surviving family members of Iliya Dakus recounted the moments leading up to the attack, describing how the sound of gunfire initially created confusion within the household.

He explained that he woke his wife after hearing the gunshots, sensing that something unusual was happening in the community.

While there was initial uncertainty about the severity of the situation, the intensity of the gunfire soon confirmed that the village was under attack.

He managed to escape through the back of the house, but by the time he attempted to alert other family members, the attackers had already surrounded the area.

The account further explained that the gunmen proceeded to open fire within the compound, leaving several family members trapped inside.

His narration reflected the suddenness of the incident and the difficulty faced by residents in responding to such rapid violence.
