A Tanzanian couple has been arrested by Kenyan police in Mombasa over allegations that they targeted bus passengers, drugged them and stole their personal belongings.

The arrest was confirmed by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday, September 29, after detectives linked the couple to a recent passenger robbery investigation.

According to the DCI, the latest case was reported on September 18, 2026, after a passenger boarded a Dreamline bus travelling from Nairobi to Mombasa.
The passenger reportedly told authorities that the man seated next to him allegedly drugged him, causing him to lose consciousness.
When he regained awareness, he found himself at Tudor Sub-County Hospital, but his bag and personal belongings were missing.
Following the complaint, detectives from Makupa Police Station launched an investigation and traced forensic leads that led them to Magongo.
The detectives later arrested Pius Paskale Frugenze, 52, and his wife, Redempta Revelian Kuleta, 47, who are both Tanzanian nationals.
During a search of their residence, police said they recovered items believed to belong to the complainant, including an HP laptop and an iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Authorities also reported recovering several other items suspected to have been stolen, including mobile phones, 20 phone chargers, 10 wristwatches, 20 wallets and various clothing items.
Substances suspected to be stupefying drugs were also reportedly recovered during the operation.
The two suspects remain in police custody while investigations continue and are expected to face legal proceedings. The recovered items have been kept as exhibits, according to the DCI.
