A married woman identified as Mrs Rukayat Muhammed has been arrested by the FCT Police Command in connection with the death of a man whose body was later found under the Katampe Bridge along the Kubwa Expressway in Abuja.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, disclosed the development while briefing journalists on cases handled by the command.
According to the police, the deceased had lodged at Good Samaritan Guest House on 2nd Avenue, Gwarimpa, with Rukayat, whom investigators said was in a romantic relationship with him.

The man was later found dead, and his body was eventually discovered under the Katampe Bridge on August 26, 2026. Police said his family had earlier reported him missing.
Sanusi said the investigation initially considered the possibility of kidnapping or a “one chance” robbery before detectives established that the deceased was the same man whose disappearance had been reported by his family.
According to the commissioner, the deceased’s missing mobile phone became a major lead in the investigation. Although the phone was later switched off, investigators were able to establish his last known communication, which led them to Rukayat.
Police said further investigation revealed that Rukayat had saved the deceased’s contact on her phone under the name “Safiyat.” Investigators also established that the pair had stayed together at the Gwarimpa guest house.
The commissioner said Rukayat told investigators that she discovered the man was no longer breathing and had died.
“Rather than immediately reporting the incident to the Police, the suspect took the deceased’s mobile phone and left the hotel,” Sanusi stated.
Several hours later, according to the police, hotel management became concerned after they were unable to establish contact with the occupants of the room. Access was eventually gained to the room, where the man’s lifeless body was discovered.
However, the police said two hotel workers, identified as Ibrahim Omeiza and Kefat Bitrus, did not report the discovery to the authorities. Instead, they allegedly removed the body from the room and transported it to the Kubwa Expressway near Katampe, where it was dumped under the bridge.
Sanusi said the investigation had uncovered a significant part of the circumstances surrounding the discovery and movement of the body, but stressed that the case remained under investigation.
The commissioner also said the exact cause and circumstances of the man’s death had not yet been established.
“Anyone found to have played a role in the death or subsequent concealment and abandonment of the body will be made to face the law,” Sanusi stated.
The police have arrested Rukayat and the two hotel workers as investigations continue to establish exactly what happened before and after the man’s death.
At this stage, the police have not stated that Rukayat or the hotel workers caused the man’s death; the investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances and establish individual responsibility.
