Forty-year-old Erin McGinty has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the death of her 18-month-old son, more than two years after the toddler died.

McGinty was taken into custody on Wednesday after a grand jury indictment filed on September 15 charged her with murder involving domestic violence. Her son died around August 9, 2024, when he was 18 months old.
According to the indictment, McGinty intentionally or wantonly caused the death of her son under circumstances described as showing extreme indifference to human life.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has since determined that the child’s cause of death was complications of congenital heart disease and what it described as willful non-compliance with medication administration. The manner of death was classified as homicide.
McGinty is currently being held at the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections on a $250,000 bond.
