SIX DIE IN TRAGIC ADAMAWA ROAD CRASH, FOUR NYSC MEMBERS AMONG VICTIMS

A tragic road accident in Adamawa State has claimed the lives of six people, including four serving members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and a military personnel.

The fatal crash occurred on Wednesday in the Narehi area of Girei-Song Local Government Area and involved a military gun truck travelling from Gombi to Yola and a commercial Hummer bus conveying five passengers from Yola to Mubi.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Adamawa State Police Command, Suleiman Nguroje, said preliminary investigations showed that both vehicles were involved in a head-on collision.

“Preliminary findings reveal that both vehicles were involved in a head-on collision, resulting in the commercial bus flipping over and bursting into flames,” Nguroje said.

The impact of the collision caused the commercial bus to overturn and catch fire, trapping its occupants.

“Tragically, all five passengers aboard the Hummer bus were burnt to death after the vehicle caught fire following the collision,” the statement read in part.

Police said initial identification revealed that four of the deceased passengers were NYSC members posted to Adamawa State. Two of them have been identified as Suleuman Juliet and Usman Shuaibu, both natives of Kaduna State, while efforts are ongoing to establish the identities of the remaining victims.

Authorities also confirmed that one soldier attached to the military vehicle lost his life in the accident, bringing the total death toll to six.

“The corpses have been evacuated to the Specialist Hospital, Yola, while efforts are ongoing to identify the remaining bodies and locate their families,” the police said.

Nguroje added that the Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State extended his condolences to the families of the deceased, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the National Youth Service Corps and all others affected by the tragedy.
