UDUS to host first International Media Conference on AI

The Department of Mass Communication at Usmanu Danfodiyo University (UDUS) will hold its maiden international conference from 7th June 2026, themed “Media and National Development in the Era of Artificial Intelligence”.

A statement from Dr Danladi Bako, Chairman of the organising committee, confirmed that former United Nations General Assembly President, Professor Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, will chair the event.

Dr Danladi said the conference will open on 7th June with a pre-conference lecture by Professor Fatma El-Sayed of Cairo University, Egypt, at 1pm.

The main proceedings, which will critically examine the intersection of media and AI in a rapidly evolving digital landscape, will be officially opened on 8th June at the university’s auditorium by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Bashir Garba, who will serve as chief host.

Professor Garba expressed the institution’s readiness and delight at hosting a conference of international standing, stating: “We are very ready to host the international academic community.”

According to Dr Danladi’s statement, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the University Governing Council, Professor Attahiru Jega, will also attend the opening ceremony alongside council members.

A keynote lecture by double Fulbright scholar Professor Kehbuma Langmia of Howard University, Washington DC, will be a highlight of the conference. The lecture will set the stage for robust intellectual discussions, with lead paper presenters and panellists drawn from Nigerian universities and stakeholders across society.

The department will also unveil the maiden edition of its journal, ALKALAMI Journal of Communication and Media Studies.

“The four-day event promises to be memorable and fulfilling for visitors and the academic community at large,” Dr Danladi assured.
