Akwa Ibom State Police Command said it apprehended 25 persons over suspected involvement in cultism at Oku Abak in Abak Local Government Area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John disclosed this in a statement in Uyo yesterday.
John said at about 9.19pm on Sunday, personnel from the command’s Emergency Response Service stormed a notorious black spot where the suspected cultists assembled.
She said the command carried out a successful operation in the area, following credible intelligence from members of the public.
The spokesman said the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Azare, had directed intensified raids on identified black spots in the state.
John added that one locally made pistol, two live cartridges and one red beret were recovered during the exercise.
She also said that the police recovered three motorcycles and one minibus from the suspects.
The police spokesperson said the suspects are currently in custody and that investigation is ongoing on the matter.
John said the command would do everything possible to apprehend fleeing members of the gang.
She urged members of the public to always support the police by providing timely and credible information. (NAN)
