The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspected kidnappers and rescued a five-year-old girl, Miss Fikayo Gbemiga, who was abducted from her family’s residence in the Iyana Offa area of Ibadan on July 3, 2026.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka.
According to the statement, the breakthrough followed a sustained intelligence-driven operation by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad, which deployed technology and other investigative techniques to track down the suspects and locate the victim.
The police said the operation led to the arrest of the suspects at about 10:30 p.m. on July 11, 2026, at their hideout in the Mojoyin Molade area of Iwo Road, Ibadan. Shortly after the raid, officers rescued the child unharmed and ensured she received immediate medical attention.
Preliminary investigations identified the suspects as Adegboye Seyi Sunday, 37, and Adegboye Elijah Adefemi, 25. Investigators alleged that the pair unlawfully entered the victim’s residence, abducted the five-year-old girl and later demanded a ransom of ₦10 million from her family.
The statement added that acting on credible intelligence gathered during the investigation, operatives stormed the hideout and rescued the child before the suspects could relocate her or escape.
Investigators further discovered that the suspects had already received ₦1 million in ransom from the victim’s family at Gbongan, Osun State, on July 8, 2026, during negotiations for the child’s release.
Police said the two suspects are assisting with ongoing investigations, while efforts have been intensified to recover the ransom and apprehend other members of the kidnapping syndicate who remain at large.
Commending the officers involved in the operation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, praised their professionalism, commitment and resilience, describing the rescue as a testament to the Command’s intelligence-led policing strategy.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to eliminating kidnapping and other violent crimes across Oyo State through effective policing and stronger collaboration with members of the public.
The Commissioner also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely, credible and actionable information to the police, assuring them that all useful intelligence would be handled with strict confidentiality and acted upon4 promptly.
