The National President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Mrs Olufunmilola Disu, has urged women to embrace vocational and digital skills, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI), as a pathway to economic empowerment and self-reliance.
Mrs Disu made the call during a visit to the POWA Skill Acquisition Centre at Dei-Dei Barracks in Abuja, where she interacted with trainees, instructors and management staff across the institution’s various departments.
During a tour of the facility, she inspected the Adult Education, Baking and Confectionery, Tailoring, Hairdressing, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sections, commending the trainees for their commitment to learning and personal development.
Addressing participants, Mrs Disu stressed the importance of acquiring practical and relevant skills in today’s rapidly changing world, noting that vocational training and digital literacy are essential for achieving financial independence and long-term success.
She also encouraged the trainees to take advantage of the opportunities presented by Artificial Intelligence and other emerging technologies, describing them as valuable tools capable of boosting productivity, fostering creativity and driving innovation across different professions and businesses.
Mrs Disu later held discussions with the management and staff of the centre to assess its operational needs and identify areas requiring improvement.
She reaffirmed POWA’s commitment to supporting the institution through enhanced staff welfare and the maintenance and upgrade of its facilities to provide a more conducive environment for learning and skills acquisition.
According to Mrs Disu, equipping women with practical skills, knowledge and access to technology remains central to POWA’s vision of building stronger families and more resilient communities within the police family.
She added that the visit underscores the association’s continued commitment to promoting education, innovation and sustainable economic empowerment among members of the police community.
