The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested two suspects for allegedly defrauding unsuspecting customers by selling them dummy phones disguised as genuine devices.
This was revealed in a press statement issued on Tuesday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje.
According to the statement, the suspects, identified as Audu Abubakar and Nasiru Hassan, both residents of Bauchi Street in Yola North Local Government Area, were arrested following complaints from victims who discovered that the phones they purchased were non-functional replicas instead of original working devices.
The police said several dummy phones and other exhibits were recovered from the suspects during the operation.
The statement added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Kabiru Umar Hassan, fdc, has directed that the suspects be subjected to a thorough investigation and charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
The Command also advised members of the public to remain vigilant and patronise only accredited phone dealers. It further urged buyers to properly test mobile devices and insist on receipts before making payment.
