The Nigeria Police Force has recorded a series of operational successes across several states within the last 24 hours, including the arrest of a suspected IPOB/ESN kingpin, the rescue of a kidnapped farmer, the apprehension of a suspected bandit impersonating military personnel, and the arrest of several other criminal suspects.
The developments were highlighted in the Force’s operational update covering security activities across the country.
In Enugu State, operatives arrested a suspected notorious IPOB/ESN kingpin, Chinonso Umeh, also known as “Onye Army,” during an operation carried out in Imo State. Police recovered one revolver pistol, one AK-47 rifle, assorted ammunition and charms from the suspect.
The command also arrested two other suspects, Asanya Nnamdi and Abugu Tochukwu, during a routine patrol. Recovered from them were a pump-action gun, 22 live cartridges, a knife, an Allen key and ₦239,200 in cash. The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Enugu has commenced investigations.
In Kano State, police arrested Muhammad Isa, 28, for allegedly engaging in banditry while impersonating military personnel. Two of his alleged accomplices, identified as Atiku and Alhassan, escaped during the operation and are currently being tracked.
Items recovered from the suspect include an AK-47 magazine loaded with 30 rounds of live ammunition, 79 additional rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, two pairs of military uniforms, three military caps, a suspected fake military identity card, a National Identity Card, ATM cards and a pair of desert boots. Investigation is ongoing.
In Zamfara State, tactical teams and other joint security operatives were deployed to strategic locations to intercept suspected bandits following an attack on Geba village. The SCID in Gusau has commenced an investigation into the incident.
In Niger State, detectives visited the scene of a reported double homicide at Woko village. The victims’ bodies were evacuated to the General Hospital, New Bussa, for autopsy, while the SCID in Minna has launched an investigation and intensified efforts to apprehend those responsible.
In Oyo State, security operatives successfully rescued kidnapped farmer Owoade Mathew unhurt after sustained bush-combing operations. He has since been reunited with his family.
The operation involved a combined team of police personnel, Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes and hunters. The SCID in Ibadan is investigating the kidnapping alongside related armed robbery cases.
In Ogun State, detectives visited the scene of an armed robbery attack in Simawa. Police also arrested Mubarak Ibrahim and Mohammed Yusuf at the Ogere Trailer Park Market over the alleged vandalism and theft of electrical infrastructure.
Stolen electrical conductors and other equipment were recovered from the suspects, who are expected to be charged to court after investigations by the SCID in Eleweran.
In Cross River State, police operatives tracked and arrested a rape suspect, Henry Erim.
The survivor was taken to Cottage Hospital, Akpet Central, for medical examination, while the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime and remains in police custody. The SCID in Calabar is continuing investigations into the case.
