The Oyo State Police Command has successfully rescued a farmer, Mr. Owoade Mathew, who was kidnapped along the Igbojaye–Budo Aare bush road on July 12, 2026.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Adewale Osifeso Olayinka Ayanlade, who said the victim regained his freedom on the evening of July 13 following a coordinated operation involving security agencies and sustained investigative efforts.
According to the statement, sustained operational pressure mounted by security personnel compelled the abductors to flee, leaving the victim behind.
The Command confirmed that the rescued farmer has been taken to a medical facility for evaluation and treatment.
“Upon completion of medical attention, he will be debriefed by investigators as part of the ongoing investigation aimed at identifying, apprehending and prosecuting all those responsible for the criminal act,” the statement said.
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, commended the collaboration and support received from other security agencies, community members and residents during the rescue operation.
He also reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state, assuring residents that security agencies would continue to intensify efforts to ensure criminal elements have no safe haven in Oyo State.
The police further appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely, credible information that would assist security agencies in ongoing efforts to combat crime and maintain public safety.
