The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed that 44 persons were killed in a deadly coordinated attack on several communities in Shanga Local Government Area of the state.
According to a report by Channels Television on Friday, April 10, 2027, the police said the affected communities include Gebe, Kalkami, Kawara, Kasoshi, Awaye, Tungar Rini, Binuwa and Dabe.
The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday by its Public Relations Officer, Bashir Usman.
According to him, the police have launched a statewide clearance operation following the attack.
Usman said the operation was ordered by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, as part of efforts to stop further bandit attacks and violent crimes in the state.
He explained that security personnel have been massively deployed to the affected communities and other vulnerable areas.
The police spokesman said the heavy deployment has helped to restore relative calm in the troubled areas.
He added that investigations have already begun into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Usman said the clearance operation is targeting forests, farmlands, border communities and remote settlements believed to be hiding places for criminals.
He noted that the operation also includes intelligence-led stop-and-search activities, coordinated patrols and joint security operations with other agencies.
According to the police, two AK-47 rifles were recovered along the Illo-Kamba axis during the operation.
The command described the recovery as proof that intelligence-driven policing is yielding results.
Meanwhile, Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Umar Hadejia, has urged residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with useful information.
He also called on traditional rulers, community leaders, religious organisations and youth groups to join efforts aimed at restoring peace in the state.
