A young married woman has shared her experience of a tense encounter with her mother-in-law that has since led to months of silence between them.
Domestic clash raises questions about roles at home
The incident occurred during a four-day visit when the older woman noticed the house had not been swept.
When asked why, the wife explained that a cleaner, who visits weekly, was scheduled to come the following day.
Her response, however, sparked criticism from her mother-in-law, who questioned her role in the home.
“I told her we have a cleaner who comes weekly and he was due the next day. She looked at me and asked what exactly I do that I can’t sweep, and why I’m wasting my husband’s money on a small apartment,” the woman recounted.
Before the situation escalated further, her husband intervened, stating firmly that he did not marry her to perform chores and that hiring a cleaner was not an issue.
Aftermath leaves lingering silence
Tension deepened when the mother-in-law reportedly picked up a broom and began sweeping, only to stop after noticing the couple’s reaction. She left the home the next day and has since refused communication.
“My husband says I should leave her, but I’m even thinking of calling her to apologize. I don’t know anymore if I was wrong,” she added.
Similar family disputes in recent years have highlighted generational differences in expectations around domestic roles and responsibilities.
