The governor disclosed this during a live broadcast on ITVRadio, where he spoke about his reception among residents during a walk along Sapele Road in Benin City.
According to Okpebholo, residents now greet him warmly and call him affectionate names instead of throwing sachets of water at him.
He also revealed that the nickname “Okphes Baby” had replaced his former name, “Akpako Rescue”, describing the development as a source of joy.
He said, “They have even changed my name from Akpako Rescue to Okpe’s baby. These things give me joy because I walk freely on the street; instead of throwing pure water at me, they are giving me sweet names.”
The governor also praised President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, citing changes in commodity prices and the foreign exchange market as signs of improvement.
However, his comments about the new nickname have attracted criticism on social media, with some Nigerians questioning why he was celebrating the name.
