Veteran Nollywood actress Toyin Afolayan, popularly known as Lola Idije, has expressed her displeasure over the kind of roles she is frequently assigned in movies.
The Yoruba movie star is widely recognised for portraying troublesome characters, particularly wicked mothers-in-law and other antagonistic figures.
However, speaking during an interview on African A-List, the actress disclosed that she has repeatedly complained to movie directors and crew members about being stereotyped.
According to her, she often wonders why filmmakers rarely give her roles that portray her as a loving and supportive mother instead of characters who are constantly shouting and causing trouble.
Lola Idije said she has openly questioned directors about their decision to keep assigning her such roles, despite her desire to explore different characters.
“Directors and crew members watching this programme know that I have complained about this. I ask them, ‘What have I done? You don’t give me good roles where I am a nice mother; why must I always be shouting?’ They will say…”
