  • Laura Ikeji, a Nigerian businesswoman and influencer, shared her experience of losing a friendship.
  • The fallout was due to her decision not to showcase a birthday gift on social media.
  • The gift in question was an expensive Cartier bracelet given to her by a friend.

Nigerian businesswoman and influencer Laura Ikeji has opened up about how her decision to keep a birthday gift off social media reportedly cost her a friendship.

In a video shared online, Laura narrated how she fell out with a friend who was unhappy that she did not publicly show off an expensive Cartier bracelet she had gifted her.

According to Laura, the woman was initially her customer before they eventually developed a friendship. The friend reportedly surprised her with the luxury bracelet as a birthday present in March 2025.

Laura explained that she was genuinely excited about receiving the gift and even shared the news with her close friends. However, she deliberately chose not to post it on social media.

She noted that she had moved past the stage of making every personal experience public, adding that her decision not to flaunt the bracelet online was not an indication that she did not appreciate the gesture.

However, the decision reportedly upset her friend, who eventually confronted her and questioned whether she had refused to show off the bracelet because she believed it was fake.

Laura said the disagreement led to several back-and-forth exchanges between them. Eventually, she decided to return the expensive gift to the woman.

She explained that returning the Cartier bracelet marked the end of their friendship, leaving her to lose someone she had once considered a friend over the issue of social media recognition.
