“Must We Acquire A PhD In Food Safety?”- Mary Njoku Tackles NAFDAC Over Unsafe Products

  • Mary Njoku, a Nollywood actress and filmmaker, has expressed concerns about fake and unsafe products in Nigeria.
  • She directed her questions to Mojisola Adeyeye, the Director-General of NAFDAC.
  • Njoku referenced a past incident where Adeyeye laughed during discussions about food safety issues in the country.

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Mary Njoku has questioned the Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Mojisola Adeyeye, over the continued concerns surrounding fake and unsafe products in Nigeria.

The actress raised the issue in a social media post, recalling the laughter of the NAFDAC boss during the controversy surrounding food safety in the country.

Expressing concern over whether Nigerians are now protected, Mary questioned if anything had changed since the issue first generated public attention.

She also criticised what she described as a recurring pattern in Nigeria, where pressing issues are raised, but little appears to be done before another controversy takes over public attention.

In her words:

“Good morning.

How far with the NAFDAC mummy whose laughter during the food safety controversy I will never forget?

Are we actually safe now?

Or is this the usual Nigerian cycle where we cry out, nothing gets resolved, and bigger problems come along to bury the old ones?

Someone, please update me. Have we illiterates finally earned the right to eat safely, or must we first acquire a PhD in food safety to compensate for the regulators?”

Mary’s comments have sparked renewed attention to food safety concerns and the responsibility of regulatory agencies to ensure that Nigerians have access to safe products.
