Emulate Americans – ADC Urges Nigerians To Reject APC In 2027

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has urged Nigerians to emulate American voters by using their votes to reject the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

Politics Nigeria reports that the ADC made the call while reacting to Tuesday’s United States midterm elections, in which the opposition Democratic Party recorded major victories against President Donald Trump’s Republican Party.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said the election results demonstrated that political power ultimately belonged to citizens, not presidents or ruling parties.

The party argued that American voters had shown that governments could be held accountable through the ballot box when their policies failed to address the needs of ordinary citizens.

“Americans have shown that when politicians become arrogant, when policies punish ordinary people, and when those in power mistake popularity for a permanent licence to govern, the ballot box remains the ultimate instrument of accountability.

“American voters understand something Nigerians must also learn: elections are about the welfare of the citizens, not sentiments, political loyalties or personality cults. No leader is bigger than the people, and no political party is entitled to power forever,” the ADC said.

The opposition party said Nigerians had endured years of economic hardship, worsening insecurity and shrinking opportunities under the administration of President Bola Tinubu, yet the APC was seeking another mandate in 2027.

It urged voters not to support a government whose policies, according to the party, had made life increasingly difficult for citizens.

“We cannot continue to complain about the cost of living while voting for a President who has made life unaffordable. We cannot demand security while rewarding failure. We cannot earnestly yearn for change while sustaining the very political system responsible for our collective impoverishment,” the statement added.

The ADC described the 2027 elections as an opportunity for Nigerians to change the country’s political direction, urging citizens to turn out in large numbers and vote in their own interests.

“History beckons in 2027. Our voters’ cards must become instruments of change, not souvenirs of citizenship. Nigerians must turn out massively and vote for their own interests,” the party said.

It also presented its proposed agenda as an alternative to the APC-led government, outlining three major promises under the slogans: “Make Nigeria Affordable Again. Make Nigeria Safe Again. Give Nigerians Jobs Again.”

The party added: “If Americans can use their votes to demand better, Nigerians can do the same. In 2027, let our votes speak louder than the APC-induced suffering.”

The ADC’s comments followed major Democratic victories in the United States midterm elections, including defeats of Republican candidates in key Senate races in traditionally conservative states such as South Carolina, Texas and Ohio.

It was gathered that the Democrats also made significant gains in House of Representatives races in states including Kentucky, New Jersey and North Carolina, bringing the party closer to reclaiming control of Congress.

US President Donald Trump

Meanwhile, Trump blamed the Iran war for his party’s poor performance, although he acknowledged that the Democrats had run a strong campaign.

Speaking during an interview on Tuesday, the US president said the opposition had worked hard to secure its victories.

“I think the Democrats did a good job. I really do. I think they did a good job. They fought hard,” Trump said.

He also admitted that the conflict with Iran might have contributed to the Republicans’ losses, although he maintained that voters understood the importance of his actions against Tehran.

“I think a part of it was Iran, but at the same time, people understood the importance of what I’ve done with Iran,” he said.
