A man reportedly affiliated with the City Boy Movement and identified as one of its executives was captured on video wielding a machete during an attack on African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate and human rights activist Omoyele Sowore and members of his team in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
In footage shared online by Sowore, the man, dressed in a green T-shirt and white cap, is seen brandishing a machete and allegedly attacking Sowore and his associates during the violent incident, which occurred on 30 October 2026 in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
The City Boy Movement (CBM) is a Nigerian youth-driven civic, political advocacy, and social welfare organisation founded in 2022. The movement was established to support the political rise and presidency of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is often referred to by the moniker “City Boy”.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu serves as the Grand Patron, his son Seyi Tinubu serves as the National Patron, Shoga Francis Oluwatosin is the Director-General, and Hon. Favour Abayomi is the National Coordinator.
Other men seen alongside him in the footage also appear to be attacking people at the scene. In another part of the video, an officer on the right-hand side of the frame is seen being stripped by other men amid the chaos.
The footage has emerged as a significant development in the investigation into the reported assault, with Sowore calling for an independent investigation and the removal of the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police and other officers he accused of mishandling the case.
Confirming the emergence of the video on Sunday night, Sowore described it as a “major breakthrough,” saying it revealed the faces of individuals allegedly involved in the attack on him, AAC members and other members of his team.
In a statement, Sowore said fresh video evidence had emerged showing the faces of people identified as participants in the October 30 armed attack in Ado-Ekiti.
He said the attackers assaulted members of his team during the incident, adding that the newly obtained footage could provide crucial leads for identifying those involved and establishing their respective roles.
BREAKING: MAJOR BREAKTHROUGH AS CHILLING ATTACK VIDEO REVEALS FACES OF ATTACKERS IN BRUTAL ASSAULT ON @SOWORE, TEAM IN ADO-EKITI Fresh video evidence has emerged showing the faces of individuals identified as participants in the October 30, 2026, armed attack on leaders and me, as well as members of the African Action Congress (AAC) and members of his team in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, who assaulted one of our team members. The breakthrough comes amid disturbing revelations that CCTV recordings from Tawakalitu Restaurant, where the attack occurred, have reportedly been completely erased after police officers and the DSS took possession of the equipment and took it to Government House only to return it this evening without any images. Today, I contacted the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade; the Ado-Ekiti Central Police Station DPO, Mustapha Mohammed; and the state’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Commander to demand updates on the investigation. Shockingly, the officers claimed there was “no complainant” because I had not submitted a written statement, despite police rescuing the victims, taking them to their hospital, arresting suspects, and recovering weapons, stolen phones, and other devices. I questioned the officers about stolen phones electronically traced to the Governor’s Lodge and the missing CCTV recordings; they denied knowledge and abruptly ended their conversations. In another development, Tawakalitu Restaurant management reportedly confirmed that a DPO returned the CCTV equipment, but the recordings had been completely wiped. The management refused to identify the officer responsible for returning the equipment. This is an indication of a coordinated cover-up by the @PoliceNG hierarchy in Ekiti State However, the newly recovered video provides crucial leads in identifying individuals involved in the attack. Their identities and roles need a credible independent body to investigate, and we call for the removal of the CP and other officers involved in the cover-up. The activist also raised concerns over the disappearance of CCTV recordings from Tawakalitu Restaurant, where the attack occurred.
According to him, the restaurant’s CCTV equipment was removed after police officers and operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) reportedly took possession of it and transported it to the Government House.
Sowore explained that the equipment was returned to the restaurant on Sunday evening without the recordings that could have captured the incident.
He described the development as suspicious and questioned why footage from the premises was no longer available following the reported intervention of security operatives.
The activist further disclosed that he contacted the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade; the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ado-Ekiti Central Police Station, Mustapha Mohammed; and the commander of the state’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) on Sunday to demand updates on the investigation.
“Shockingly, the officers claimed there was ‘no complainant’ because I had not submitted a written statement, despite police rescuing the victims, taking them to their hospital, arresting suspects, and recovering weapons, stolen phones, and other devices,” he said.
He, however, questioned that position, arguing that the police had already intervened in the aftermath of the incident, rescued the victims, taken them to hospital, arrested suspects and recovered weapons, stolen phones and other devices.
Sowore said he also questioned the officers about mobile phones stolen during the attack and electronically traced to the Governor’s Lodge, as well as the missing CCTV recordings.
He said that the officers denied knowledge of the matters he raised before abruptly ending the conversation.
The activist also claimed that the management of Tawakalitu Restaurant confirmed that a DPO had returned the CCTV equipment but that the recordings had been wiped.
“In another development, Tawakalitu Restaurant management reportedly confirmed that a DPO returned the CCTV equipment, but the recordings had been completely wiped. The management refused to identify the officer responsible for returning the equipment,” he said.
“This is an indication of a coordinated cover-up by the @PoliceNG hierarchy in Ekiti State.”
However, the newly recovered video provides crucial leads in identifying individuals involved in the attack.
He described the circumstances surrounding the missing recordings and the police response as evidence of a coordinated attempt to cover up the attack.
Sowore called for an independent body to investigate the attack, identify those responsible and establish whether any security officials interfered with evidence or obstructed the investigation.
He also demanded the removal of Commissioner of Police Michael Falade and other officers he accused of participating in or facilitating an alleged cover-up.
