The Niger Delta Youth Network has assured that the South-South region will not be sidelined in the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway project, urging the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), led by Dr. Doubra Okotete, to pursue constructive dialogue and sustained engagement with the Federal Government.
In a statement signed by its Director of Public Relations and Digital Media, Comr. Abodei Joseph, the group called for a balanced and statesmanlike approach to discussions surrounding the coastal highway project, noting that concerns raised by regional stakeholders should be addressed through dialogue, facts and constructive engagement.
The youths commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the progress recorded on the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, describing the project as a strategic infrastructure initiative with the potential to improve connectivity, stimulate trade, attract investments and create employment opportunities across Nigeria’s coastal communities.
It maintained that the South-South region remains an integral part of the coastal development vision and should receive adequate attention to ensure that communities in the region benefit meaningfully from the project.
The group also urged the IYC not to be distracted by what it described as opposition-driven political narratives, stressing that sustained engagement with the Federal Government would be more beneficial than issuing warnings that could heighten political tension.
According to the Youth Group, regional stakeholders should adopt a strategic approach that prioritises the interests of the Ijaw people and the wider South-South region while maintaining a constructive relationship with the Federal Government.
The statement further emphasised the need for stakeholders to closely monitor the implementation of the project and continue advocating for fairness, inclusion and tangible developmental benefits for the region.
Reaffirming its position, the Niger Delta Youth Network declared its full support for President Tinubu, stating that its backing was anchored on expectations of continued development, fairness, inclusion and measurable results.
The group expressed confidence that a united approach, supported by responsible leadership and mutual respect, would better serve the interests of the South-South region than confrontation or political division.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has demonstrated leadership and commitment to Nigeria’s development. In my view, his performance deserves recognition and serious consideration for a second term.
The South-South region remains an important partner in Nigeria’s progress. As we look toward the future, regional unity, constructive dialogue, and sustained development should remain our priorities. Let us continue to assess leadership based on performance, policies, and the promise of a better Nigeria for all.
