During Our Time We Didn’t Crash Nigeria Into One Party System, Okay Tell Me How Did APC Win? Ogidi

Elder Emmanuel Ogidi, a senior member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has warned that Nigeria could be moving toward rule by a single party if current trends continue.

Speaking in a video shared by NTA, Ogidi said the PDP allowed other parties to operate when it was in power, and that the All Progressives Congress (APC) later won elections because people voted for them.

He pointed out that the APC now holds nearly 30 of the 36 state governor seats and about 70 percent of the seats in the National Assembly. He said this level of control is worrying because it can make it harder for other parties to compete.

He argued that when one party controls so many offices, the balance that keeps democracy healthy can weaken. He warned that if the ruling party keeps pushing rivals aside and acting in ways that shut out opposition, elections could stop being real contests and the space for different voices could shrink.

Ogidi also stressed that the PDP did not use force to remove rivals when it was in power. He said the APC’s rise came through the voting process, not by being blocked.
