The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday, June 4, 2026, by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid.
According to the statement, the judgments, delivered by the Federal High Court in Abuja, further reinforced the authority of law enforcement agencies to investigate criminal activities and prosecute offenders without interference.
One of the rulings was delivered by Justice Emeka Nwite, who granted a permanent forfeiture order on assets belonging to Alonge Opeyemi Yetunde, a staff member in the financial sector, and her alleged accomplices.
The assets, valued at over ₦2 billion, include bank accounts, digital wallets, vehicles and landed properties located in Lagos, Osun and Delta states, as well as the Federal Capital Territory.
The police said the suspect is currently being held at the Suleja Correctional Custodial Centre and is facing charges bordering on fraud and money laundering.
In a separate judgment, Justice Bello Kawu dismissed a ₦100 million fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by a United States-based suspect, David Imole Averehi, against the Nigeria Police Force and the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of INTERPOL.
The case was instituted in an attempt to challenge actions taken by the police in the course of their investigation.
Delivering judgment, Justice Kawu held that the court could not be used as a platform to frustrate lawful police duties or protect individuals accused of criminal conduct from facing justice.
The ruling clears the way for the INTERPOL National Central Bureau, Abuja, to continue the prosecution of Averehi over allegations of obtaining money under false pretences.
The statement noted that the judgments represent significant achievements in the fight against financial crimes and reaffirm the powers of law enforcement agencies to carry out investigations in accordance with the law.
The police added that they would continue to work with international partners and deploy all legal means available to pursue financial criminals and safeguard the country’s economic system.
