Chris Nwaokobia has raised concerns about a growing leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), warning that the situation could weaken opposition politics in Nigeria.
In a video shared by SYMFONI TV, he stated that the crisis began after Nafiu Bala, who had earlier stepped down from his position, later returned to claim he never resigned. This move put him in direct opposition to the leadership of David Mark, who currently leads the party’s executive.
Nwaokobia suggested that Bala’s sudden change of position came weeks after his resignation had already been documented. He also pointed to allegations that Bala may have received a large sum of money, reportedly around two billion naira, before reversing his decision.
He further claimed that there are efforts by powerful political forces to create confusion within opposition parties. According to him, these actions are aimed at weakening parties like the ADC so they cannot effectively challenge the ruling government.
Nwaokobia warned that if such internal conflicts continue, the ADC may lose its credibility as a strong opposition platform. He also expressed concern that institutions like the electoral body and the judiciary could become involved in ways that might worsen the situation.
In his words, “A man resigned from his position because according to him, he felt that the ADC should serve as a veritable platform for the coalition. And a few weeks after his signed resignation, the APC dose out money to him, clearly. Some allegedly said he was given two billion and he suddenly wakes up and said I didn’t leave.”.......…
