Lagos State Deputy Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2027 election, Obafemi Hamzat, has questioned Peter Obi’s ability to manage Nigeria if elected president.
Hamzat made the remarks on Saturday at the Gbaja Mega Empowerment Programme organised by the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, for residents of Surulere Federal Constituency in Lagos.
The programme featured the distribution of cash, vehicles and other forms of support to beneficiaries within the constituency.
Speaking at the event, Hamzat linked political party organisation to the ability of a prospective president to manage the affairs of the country.
He argued that anyone seeking to lead Nigeria should demonstrate an ability to build and manage a political organisation.
Hamzat used Obi’s political history to make his point, contrasting the former Anambra governor’s movement across political platforms with Tinubu’s involvement in building the APC.
“You cannot rule a country if you cannot manage the affairs of a political party,” Hamzat said.
He added, “Obi has gone from APGA to PDP, to Labour Party, to ADC and currently NDC. But Asiwaju has been consistently building the APC to what it is today, which is why all of us are here.”

Obi was previously associated with the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) before joining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He later contested the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the Labour Party and is now the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for 2027.
Hamzat, meanwhile, credited Tinubu with playing a significant role in the development and organisation of the APC.
