VETERAN ACTOR KOLA OYEWO DIES AT 80

News of his death was announced on Friday by fellow actor Kunle Afod in a post shared on Instagram.

Afod paid tribute to the late thespian, writing, “Kola Oyewo has taken his final bow.

“His remarkable talent, timeless performances, and immense contributions to the Nigerian theatre and film industry will never be forgotten. His legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.

“Rest well, sir. Your work lives on.”

Born on March 27, 1946, in Oba-Ile, Osun State, Oyewo began his journey in the performing arts in 1964 when he joined the Oyin Adejobi Theatre Group.

Over the decades, he established himself as one of the most respected figures in Yoruba theatre and the Nigerian film industry, earning admiration for his talent and dedication to the craft.

Oyewo gained widespread acclaim for his portrayal of Odewale in the celebrated play, “The Gods Are Not to Blame,” written by Ola Rotimi. His performance in the production earned him recognition across Africa’s theatre community and cemented his place among the continent’s distinguished stage actors.

His passing marks the end of an era in Nigerian theatre and film, but his contributions to the industry continue to stand as a lasting legacy for future generations.
