The Nigeria Police Force has recorded a series of major operational gains across the country in April 2026, highlighting intensified efforts to tackle violent crime and reinforce internal security.
Details of the nationwide operations were contained in a statement issued on 6 May 2026 by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, who outlined the scale of arrests, rescues, and recoveries made within the period.
According to the statement, coordinated actions by police tactical and investigative units led to the arrest of 28 suspected terrorists, 85 suspected kidnappers, 62 armed robbery suspects, 51 individuals linked to murder and culpable homicide, as well as 54 suspected cultists.
In addition to the arrests, operatives rescued 189 kidnapped victims from various criminal hideouts and detention locations across the country, underscoring the impact of ongoing security interventions.
The operations also yielded significant recoveries, including 140 assorted firearms, 1,074 rounds of ammunition, and 37 stolen vehicles connected to criminal activities.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, commended officers and men involved in the operations for their professionalism, resilience, and dedication to duty, noting that the results reflect the increasing effectiveness of intelligence-led policing and improved inter-agency collaboration.
He further assured Nigerians that the Force remains determined to dismantle criminal networks, enhance public safety, and sustain reforms aimed at building a more accountable, professional, and people-centred policing system.
The Force also called on members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information, stressing that security remains a shared responsibility.
