IGP REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO TRANSPARENCY, ACCOUNTABILITY AND ONGOING REFORMS

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc (+), NPM, has reiterated his commitment to building a more transparent, accountable, and citizen-focused Nigeria Police Force, stressing that openness and institutional integrity remain central to ongoing reforms within the Force.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, psc(+), mnipr, mni, issued on 7th May, 2026, following an Emergency Conference held between Commissioners of Police and members of the press at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Centre, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

At the meeting, which brought together senior police officers and representatives of the media, the IGP emphasized that transparency must remain a key pillar of modern policing and a strong foundation for public trust.

The Inspector-General was quoted as saying:

“Transparency is the foundation of the new Nigeria Police Force I am committed to building. I have nothing to hide, and neither should any officer under my command.”

He further stated that accountability within the Force will continue to be enforced without compromise, particularly in matters involving misconduct, abuse of office, and violations of professional standards.

According to him, the ongoing reforms under his leadership are geared towards enhancing professionalism, strengthening respect for human rights, improving operational discipline, and restoring public confidence in policing across the country.

The conference also provided an avenue for direct engagement with the media, reinforcing the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to openness, responsible policing, and sustained institutional reform.

The Force reiterated its resolve to rebuild public trust, improve service delivery, and entrench a policing system anchored on integrity, discipline, and accountability.
