The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old suspected armed robber and recovered an AK-47 rifle, two locally made cut-to-size guns and three rounds of live ammunition in Asaba.
The suspect, identified as Sunday Nimel, was arrested on October 7, 2026, at about 10:30 p.m. by operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), Ughelli, working with local vigilantes.
The police said the arrest followed credible intelligence linking the suspect to an armed robbery syndicate allegedly responsible for several residential robbery operations in Asaba and its environs.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, the operation was intelligence-led.
The command said the suspect made useful statements during interrogation, which led operatives to a hideout near Okpanam City Gate.
A search of the hideout reportedly led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, three rounds of live ammunition and two locally made cut-to-size guns.
The police said investigations were ongoing to establish further details of the alleged criminal activities and identify other members of the suspected robbery syndicate.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Samuel Erale, commended the operatives for the operation and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and dismantling criminal networks across the state.
Erale urged residents to continue providing credible information to the police, assuring them that the command remained committed to protecting lives and property.
