PDP Can Win Adamawa In 2027 Without Council Chairmen
Dr Maurice Volnobolki, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Adamawa, says the exit of local government chairmen and councillors will not affect the party’s chances in the 2027 general elections.
Volnobolki spoke on Thursday in Yola at the inauguration of the party’s 2027 campaign council for ward, local government and state-level campaigns.
He urged members not to worry about the departure of council chairmen and councillors across the state’s 21 local government areas and 226 wards.
“There is no cause for alarm. I have no doubt in my mind that all of you representing our structures across the 226 wards and 21 local governments are capable of delivering victory,” he said.
The candidate cited the 2019 general elections, when the PDP won Adamawa in spite of lacking local government chairmen, councillors and political appointees.
He expressed confidence that the party’s grassroots supporters would help it repeat the feat in 2027.
Volnobolki commended Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri’s administration for its development and empowerment programmes, which he said aligned with the PDP’s manifesto.
“The party that brought the sitting governor is here, and you are the grassroots that brought the governor. I assure you that we are equal to the task,” he said.
He pledged to justify the confidence reposed in him by party members and urged supporters to vote massively without fear of intimidation.
Volnobolki also challenged other governorship candidates to public debates, saying he was prepared to present his policies and programmes to the electorate.
He said his nine-point agenda for the state was built around three pillars of people, prosperity and peace.
According to him, the proposed agenda will prioritise citizens’ welfare, justice, fairness, equal opportunities, security and critical infrastructure.
Earlier, Adamawa PDP Chairman, Mr Belmont Dogo, congratulated members of the campaign council and said the party was committed to peaceful, law-abiding conduct and good governance.
“We in PDP have no time for propaganda or cheap blackmail, but to deliver good governance to Adamawa people in the coming election,” Dogo said.
The Director-General of the campaign council, Mr Hamman Ribadu, pledged grassroots mobilisation across the state to canvass support for the party.
The PDP State Legal Adviser, Mr John Tunoh, administered the campaign council’s code of conduct and urged members to remain committed to the party.
