The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the announcement by its youth leader, Dayo Israel, that brand-new Toyota Prado SUVs had been distributed to selected youth leaders for election mobilisation.
The opposition party estimated that the seven vehicles could cost about ₦1.015 billion, arguing that the spending was at odds with the economic hardship many Nigerians continue to face.
Israel announced the distribution in a video caption, explaining that the vehicles were provided to support the party’s mobilisation efforts ahead of the forthcoming elections.
Reacting to the development, the NDC valued each 2026 Toyota Prado at approximately ₦145 million, putting the estimated cost of the seven vehicles at more than ₦1 billion.
The party used the announcement to criticise President Bola Tinubu’s administration, accusing it of asking Nigerians to endure the effects of economic reforms while political activities involve what it described as extravagant spending.
In a statement, the NDC condemned the government’s economic approach and questioned the contrast between the hardship faced by citizens and the reported cost of the vehicles.

“While the rudderless, clueless, and ruinous administration of President Bola Tinubu has been asking Nigerians to endure the pains of its wicked and cruel reforms, this is how taxpayers’ money is being spent,” the party said.
The NDC also urged Nigerians to vote the APC-led administration out of power in the 2027 general elections.
It argued that its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, would pursue a different approach to governance, with an emphasis on reducing the cost of running government.
