The National President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Titus Audu Amba, has lauded Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, describing him as a shining example and a source of pride to the teaching profession nationwide.
Amba made the remark in Abuja while receiving a delegation led by the Kebbi State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, alongside members of the state’s media team at the Teachers’ House.
Highlighting the governor’s background, the NUT president noted that Governor Idris rose steadily through the ranks of both the teaching profession and the labour movement, serving in various capacities including state NUT chairman, national president of the union, and deputy president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
“His name can never be complete without mentioning the NUT because he rose through the ranks of the teaching profession and the labour movement before becoming Governor,” Amba stated, adding that the union reposed immense confidence in him even before his election.
Amba commended the governor’s transformative strides in Kebbi State, pointing to verifiable achievements in road infrastructure, education, healthcare, workers’ welfare, and urban renewal projects. He noted that the discipline and values ingrained in teaching have visibly shaped the governor’s leadership style and hands-on project monitoring.
Responding during the visit, Commissioner Birnin Kebbi explained that the media team’s tour aimed to showcase the administration’s scorecard and spotlight the state’s growing investment opportunities to national and international audiences.
The commissioner highlighted key interventions made by the state government, including the recruitment of educators, school infrastructure upgrades, the implementation of the ₦75,000 minimum wage, and healthcare expansions.
He also pointed to new economic frontiers opened by the creation of the Ministry of Solid Minerals and the Kebbi State Solid Minerals Development Commission, which have successfully attracted investor interest from countries like China, India, Indonesia, and Brazil, particularly in lithium mining.
Concluding the visit, the NUT president assured that the union would continue to identify with Governor Idris as a worthy ambassador of the profession, praising his foundational contributions to the development of Kebbi State.
