The Jericho Business Club and other relevant stakeholders have submitted that the emergence of Rotarian Hakeem Babalola as the President of Rotary International is a clear indication that the country has the potential to dictate what goes on in the global space.
They made the submission at a reception organised by the JBC in honor of Rotarian Hakeem Babalola on his investiture as President of Rotary International in Ibadan.
They stated that if the Country could be rid of corrupt practices and harness human material resources, nothing would stop it from becoming one of the leading countries in the global socioeconomic space.

In his presentation, the Aare Mayegun of Ibadanland, Chief Adebayo Oyero, has called for the development of a comprehensive Ibadan Economic Agenda to fast-track the socio-economic growth and transformation of the ancient city.
He urged all Ibadan indigenes to key into the vision and mission of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, towards repositioning the city as a major economic hub.
According to him, the ambition for Ibadan’s development requires collective commitment from individuals, professional bodies, business organisations and socio-cultural groups.
Oyero commended the Olubadan for unveiling strategic plans for the city’s development and stressed that all stakeholders must rally behind the monarch’s economic renaissance agenda.
He challenged the Jericho Businessmen Club to dedicate its next socio-economic summit to the economic future of Ibadan, with the aim of producing a 10-year economic development blueprint that would harness the city’s vast human and institutional resources for sustainable growth.
He also advocated the establishment of an economic forum comprising experts and professionals to drive the implementation of the development agenda.
The Ibadan chief further called for the empanelment of a body of competent professionals to address the physical planning challenges confronting the city’s inner core, including slums, dilapidated buildings and poor urban renewal.
He noted that with its abundance of professionals, research institutions and economic assets, Ibadan possesses the capacity to become one of Nigeria’s leading economic centres if deliberate and coordinated development strategies are pursued.
Also, JBC President, Engineer Tunji Gafaar, described Babalola’s emergence as a historic achievement that has brought global recognition to Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria and the African continent.
Gafaar said the reception was organised to celebrate one of the club’s distinguished members, identified as JBC 058, whose appointment as the global leader of Rotary International represents excellence, visionary leadership and selfless service.
He noted that Babalola became only the second African to occupy the prestigious position, describing the feat as not only a personal accomplishment but also a national milestone and a testament to the immense potential of Nigerians.
According to him, the achievement was earned through years of dedication, hard work and an unwavering commitment to humanitarian service.
“Your journey serves as a powerful reminder that with vision, discipline and a commitment to service, greatness is truly within reach.
“Olayinka Babalola exemplifies these ideals. Your achievement inspires us, your example challenges us, and your leadership continues to uplift us all. We are truly proud of you,” he stated.
In his remarks, the President of Rotary International for the 2026–2027 Rotary year, Rotarian Olayinka Hakeem Babalola, expressed appreciation to the Jericho Businessmen Club for the honour, describing the reception as deeply meaningful because it came from his roots.
Babalola, a proud member of the Jericho Businessmen Club, said he felt humbled and grateful to be celebrated by his friends, family and the people of Ibadan.
He described his emergence as the second African and second Nigerian to lead Rotary International as a great honour, noting that the position carries enormous responsibility.
“It is a great honour to lead an organisation of over 1.4 million members spread across more than 200 countries and geographical areas. This is not just about me; it is an honour for Africa, Nigeria and Ibadan,” he said.
Babalola assured that he had been adequately prepared for the task ahead and pledged to discharge his responsibilities diligently.
“I know the responsibility that comes with this office, and I can assure you that we are well prepared to deliver. Ibadan has not failed me, and I will not fail Ibadan. I will represent Ibadan, Oyo State and Nigeria with distinction,” he said.
Chairman of the occasion and Co-founder/Chairman of BOVAS Group, Architect Bamidele O. Samson, described Rotary International President, Rotarian Olayinka Hakeem Babalola, as a good man whose leadership and commitment to service have brought pride to the Jericho Businessmen Club and Nigeria.
Samson commended the Jericho Businessmen Club for organising a grand reception in honour of one of its distinguished members but noted that the celebration alone was not enough.
