Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has expressed sadness over the death of senior Ibadan chief, veteran journalist and public affairs analyst, Chief Lekan Alabi, describing his passing as a great loss to Oyo State and the nation.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the governor paid glowing tribute to the late elder statesman, saying his contributions to journalism, Yoruba culture and public service would remain indelible.
Makinde described Chief Alabi as a man of integrity, wisdom and uncommon dedication, whose counsel was valued by leaders across generations.
He said, “Chief Lekan Alabi was a man of immense wisdom, integrity, and dedication. His voice carried the weight of truth, his counsel was sought by leaders across generations, and his commitment to the preservation of Yoruba culture and values was unwavering. Oyo State has lost one of its finest sons.”
The governor noted that the late Ibadan chief distinguished himself as a respected journalist, cultural icon and community leader whose life was devoted to the service of humanity.
He extended his condolences to the Alabi family, friends and associates of the deceased, the Ibadan traditional institution and the people of Oyo State, urging them to take comfort in the enduring legacy of the late elder statesman.
Makinde said, “The government and people of Oyo State stand with the Alabi family at this difficult time. May the Almighty grant them strength and comfort, and may Chief Lekan Alabi’s soul rest in perfect peace.”
Chief Alabi, a prominent Ibadan chief and accomplished journalist, was widely respected for his contributions to media, public affairs, cultural promotion and community development. His death marks the end of a distinguished career that spanned several decades.
