Reactions trail attack on ADC campaign convoy in Kebbi State

Reactions have continued to trail Thursday’s attack on the presidential campaign convoy of the African Democratic Congress by suspected political thugs during a rally in Kebbi State.

A disturbing video circulating on social media captured the moment the hoodlums, armed with sticks and other weapons, attacked the party’s motorcade.

Security operatives attached to the convoy intervened and fired tear gas to disperse the attackers, while some ADC supporters confronted the hoodlums and chased them away from the scene.

The incident occurred barely 24 hours after the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, was attacked in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

The Cross River State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the attack on Obi’s convoy.

Reacting to the Kebbi incident, popular social media influencer Shehu Gazali Sadiq accused the ruling All Progressives Congress of declaring war on democracy.

In a post on his official X handle, Sadiq said: “APC has declared war on Nigerian democracy. Opposition parties should respond to this declaration of war without further delay.”

Another X user claimed the alleged attacks by APC thugs were only increasing the opposition party’s popularity.

The user wrote: “APC is working hard to make ADC more popular. From alleged attacks on our members’ vehicles to keeping traditional rulers away from ADC leaders, their desperation is obvious.

“In 2027, the people will teach them a serious lesson at the ballot box.”
