Gboyega Akosile, the Lagos State Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, called out controversial content creator Solomon Buchi for urging foreign visitors, especially Caucasians and Chinese tourists, to avoid Lagos if they want a real Nigerian experience.
In a statement on Friday responding to Buchi’s video on X, Akosile said Buchi was bitter toward Lagos instead of promoting other Nigerian cities positively.
Buchi described Lagos as mostly about begging, clubbing, artificial lifestyles, and too much noise, saying this misrepresents true Nigerian culture.
He suggested places like Ibadan, Uyo, Abuja, Calabar, Jos, and others as better options that show Nigeria’s heritage and offer peaceful or rustic experiences.
Akosile disagreed, saying that nightlife, including clubbing and similar activities, is part of what attracts many visitors to Lagos. He said these things are popular and help make the city lively.
Akosile questioned why Buchi made these comments, suggesting they came from a negative attitude instead of helpful feedback.
He said Lagos is still a city full of opportunities that keeps growing and getting better, no matter the criticism. He also pointed out that many people from other parts of Nigeria have found success in Lagos.
He concluded by inviting Buchi and others to experience Lagos during the December festive period, highlighting the range of activities available.
