The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has expelled two former members and ex-state Assembly aspirants, Chief Ganiyu Kolawole Egunjobi and Mr Azeez Yusuf, over alleged anti-party activities and disloyalty to the party.
The state chairman of the party, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, announced the expulsion on Wednesday, saying the action followed the conduct of the two former members after they lost the party’s primary elections for the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Egunjobi and Yusuf had contested the APC nomination process for Agege Constituency I and Agege Constituency II, respectively, but failed to secure the party’s tickets.
According to Ojelabi, the duo subsequently obtained tickets from another political party instead of accepting the outcome of the APC primaries or pursuing redress through the party’s established channels.
The Lagos APC chairman described the development as an act of anti-party activity and disloyalty, saying membership of the party could not be treated as a platform to be abandoned after an unsuccessful bid for its ticket.
Ojelabi said the party had invoked the relevant provisions of Article 9(5)(II) of the APC Constitution, as amended in 2022, in taking disciplinary action against the two former members.
He said their purported resignations from the APC amounted to a belated attempt to avoid the consequences of their actions.
“The APC is a political organisation governed by rules, regulations and constitutional obligations,” Ojelabi said, stressing that members were free to seek elective positions but must pursue such ambitions within the framework of the party’s constitution and applicable electoral laws.
He maintained that members who lost internal contests were expected to accept the outcome or seek redress through legitimate avenues rather than move to another political platform within the same electoral cycle.
The party also said the action was significant against the backdrop of the 2026 electoral framework and the requirement for political parties and candidates to comply with the Electoral Act 2026 and regulations governing the electoral process.
Ojelabi declared that Egunjobi and Yusuf were no longer members of the APC and therefore had no authority to speak for, represent or transact any business on behalf of the Lagos State chapter or the national party.
He urged APC members, supporters, stakeholders and members of the public to take note of the development and refrain from dealing with either of the expelled members as representatives or authorised agents of the party.
The chairman said the Lagos APC remained committed to internal democracy, discipline, loyalty and adherence to its rules as it prepares for the forthcoming elections.
“The right to contest an election does not confer the right to sabotage the Party after losing its nomination process,” Ojelabi said.
He added that the Lagos APC would continue to take steps it considered necessary to preserve the discipline, cohesion and credibility of the party.
